What is vaginal tightening laser treatment?

Vaginal Relaxing Syndrome can be an embarrassing condition for many women, but there is treatment for this.

What is Vaginal Relaxion Syndrome (VRS)?

Vaginal Relaxion Syndrome is the term given for the stretching of the vaginal wall. This can be often referred to as “loose” or “laxed” vagina. This can be the result of the overstretching of the vaginal canal walls during child birth or hormonal changes during menopause. It continues to affect the vagina through the mucosal lining where it becomes thin, frail and dry resulting in being able to regenerate new collagen fibres. Collagen is very essential as it is the protein for strengthening connective tissue throughout the body including the vagina.

Symptoms of VRS also includes:

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Vaginal Irritation with itching and burning

  • Urinary incontinence due to the weakened vaginal mucosa

How does it affect quality of life?

Not only can it be an embarrassing time for women, but it can have a major impact on their partners especially during intercourse where there is a noticeable reduction in friction contributing to the decrease or loss of gratification.

The quality of life for women can decline dramatically resulting in becoming afraid to go out socially or even attend work. This is a result of urinary incontinence which is another problem associated with VRS. Women will notice involuntary loss of urinary control and can be somewhat of a humiliating experience.

What does the treatment involve?

One of the most common treatment options for VRS is Intimalase Medical Laser Treatment.  IntimaLase is a unique ErYag laser therapy. It is commonly used for non-invasive tightening of the vaginal canal. This treatment can be performed as early as 6 months after child birth.

This medical laser stimulates collagen regeneration in the vaginal mucosa tissues and surrounding areas. This results in the strengthening and tightening of the vaginal walls and canal by stimulating new collagen production which aids the remodelling of the vaginal tissue.
